Welcome to another writing practice as part of your writing quest. If you’re here for the first time, welcome to your writing quest.

This article is all about brackets.

Out of all punctuation, this one is the least fun only because it’s more technical than all the others. I rarely see this punctuation out in the wild.

Honestly, I only use it if I have to, but it might be useful to some of you.

But here’s some useful info on the three different types of brackets:

  • [ ] square brackets [ ] (subject of today’s article, uses below)
  • { } curly brackets { } (math, computing languages, or music)
  • < > angled brackets < > (computing languages and emojis)

When people talk about using brackets, they are referencing the square ones, the boring ones. I believe it’s to encourage further reading, and not be too distracting.

Also, they are always in a pair. You can’t have one without the other.

*Note: parenthesis are also a type of bracket, but I’ve already covered them, so I will not be…
